  • Twitter introduced a second verification tier to its platform.
  • The “official” tag was reserved for specific accounts, including government, company, media, and celebrity accounts.
  • However, hours later, Elon Musk took away the feature.

Update, November 9, 2022 (01:45 PM ET): Earlier today, Twitter rolled out its new checkmark scheme to help differentiate between official accounts and fake facsimiles. However, just hours after the rollout, interim CEO and owner Elon Musk “killed” the feature. What could take its place is anyone’s guess at this point.
